so, i have a 101 in 1001 list… maybe one day i will post it here, who knows. but one of my things (shamelessly stolen from the dayzero website) is to write down everything that happens on 10/10/10, 11/11/11, and 12/12/12. so… here goes.
at midnight i was just getting ready for bed after getting back from the aex fall party. it was an awesome night spent roasting smores, drinking apple cider, and hanging out in the woods around a fire. i went to bed around 12:15, and then this morning i woke up at 8:40 and went to church. fall has come, and all the trees we saw on the ride to church were absolutely beautiful. i love fall. i love watching the leaves change and seeing all the colors… god’s creation is so incredible, isn’t it? i’m so blown away.
we got to church and got what is basically the best coffee ever. emily and i agreed that if we could have it injected intravenously 24/7, we would. ha. the sermon this morning was about identity in christ. it was a fabulous sermon, and i will probably blog more about it soon. the drive back to school from church today was the best drive ever. this entire weekend has been an indian summer. last week the temperatures were down in the 40’s, and it wouldn’t stop raining, but this weekend we consistantly had sunny weather with temperatures in the 70’s. summer’s last little hurrah. i for one, could not have been more excited about it. bianca asked if we should put the windows down and a unanimously screamed “YES!” abounded from everyone in the car. we had music blasting right away. bianca had the quote of the day with, “maybe we should wait until we get out of the church parking lot to blast ridin’ solo.” we didn’t. it was great.
after getting back on campus we immediately headed over to sunday brunch, by far the best meal of the week. i had an egg, a blt, and the most delicious chocolate muffin. still warm. yum. bianca, emily, kara, katie, bekah, and i had brunch together and talked about all sorts of crazy things, including our desire to have a marathon dinner one day, where we show up when the cafeteria opens and don’t leave until they kick us out when they clean up. (aka we’d be there from 4:30-7:30 or 8ish.) if we could ever find the time for that, i think it would be really fun.
following brunch i went a leadership meeting for the youth group i volunteer with at a church just down the road from campus. it was slightly boring, but necessary. after the meeting, i came back to my room for a few minutes, saw that it was 82 degrees outside (eighty. two. degrees. it’s october. that’s awesome!!!) and immediately headed outside. i sat on the quad, listened to my jesus culture playlist, and worked on memorizing the book of james. i decided i wanted to do that a long time ago, but keep ‘getting busy’ and not starting. i decided that i’d had enough excuses and was going to dive right in. i’m so glad i did. i was so happy just sitting on the quad in the middle of my own perfect little indian summer, memorizing god’s word and basking in the sunlight. few things could have been more enjoyable.
at 4 i headed to youth group. today was giant sundae sunday. basically, we put tons and tons of ice cream in a huge gutter, the kids bring their favorite toppings, and we make and eat a giant sundae. it’s complete chaos and craziness, but really fun. the kids really enjoyed themselves. and it was hilarious to watch them all dig into their ice cream creations, in a gutter. haha.
after youth group i had dinner with dolby. the cafeteria was completely packed and we spent over 10 minutes walking around trying to snag a table. finally we found one and were able to eat. it’s a good thing we ate those sundaes, because it was late by the time we actually got dinner. the dishwasher was broken, apparently, because we had to use plastic and styrofoam utensils, plates, and bowls. it was odd.
after dinner i hung out in my room for a little while, rejoiced with people over how beautiful the weather was today (it actually hit 83 at one point… i love it), read the bible passage for my bible study, and painted my toe nails. gretchen came back from her lab group meeting and we hung out for a little bit, and then it was time to go to bible study.
at bible study connor, pershe, jesse, tim, ken, seth, caroline, and i talked about matthew 1:19-34. it was all about john the baptist. we were all over the place with our discussion, but it was so good! i am so thankful to have such incredible people like them in my life. i love having friends who have a desire to learn more about god together and grow deeper in relationship with him with each other. it is such a blessing to me.
our bible study ended at 10:06, and at 10:10:10 on 10/10/10 i was walking up the princess stairs headed back to my room. i celebrated on the inside. haha. when i got back to my room, gretchen was humming a christmas song, so i decided it would be a good idea to turn on my favorite christmas song, sleigh ride. we decided we would choreograph a dance to it at some point in the future. (preferably closer to christmas when it’s acceptable to be listening to christmas music. we’re just weird… this is the second time since coming back to school that we’ve randomly decided to listen to christmas music even though it’s no where near christmas.) but for today, we just danced around like fools. i even got my hat, gloves, and a pair of rain boots out and put them on to be festive. i’m such a strange person sometimes, haha.
since then i’ve just been e-mailing friends, facebooking, writing this blog post, and generally wasting time on the computer. today was actually one of the best days i’ve had in a long time. i just get really happy when the weather is nice, and boy was it nice today. plus, i didn’t pick up a school book all day. it was a great day of rest. and even though i know tomorrow is going to be a little bit more stressful because of that, i think it was completely worth it.
well, what do you know… i’m finishing this blog post at 11:59… just as 10/10/10 comes to a close. how fitting. goodnight.
