so annie posted this little questionnaire on her blog, and i decided to blatantly steal it and fill it out as well as a nice little 2011 wrap up. :)
what did you do in 2011 that you’ve never done before?
went on vacation without my family, which was awesome.  i also nearly failed organic chemistry, which was not so awesome.

did you keep your new year’s resolution? will you make one for this year?
i don’t think i made any. (and if i did, i obviously didn’t keep them if i can’t even remember what the were.) this year i resolve to allow god to make all of my resolutions… his plans are always better than any of mine.

did anyone close to you give birth?
yes, actually… a lot of people close to me gave birth.  and since i love babies, i’m super pumped about that!

close to you die?
my ‘uncle’ died last night, actually.  (the quotation marks are there because he’s not actually my blood relative, just an extremely good family friend… but just the same we’re all really upset about his death. it was very sudden and unexpected.)

did anyone close to you get hitched?
my friends jon and emily (who i took “engagement photos” for last year) got married tonight!  i sadly could not be at the wedding because i am poor and it was in minnesota, but i’m super excited for them!  two of my cousins, jaime and phil also got married to fantastic people, scott and joanna.

what countries did you visit?
i have never left the country, actually.  not even for canada… which is not far from my school at all.

what date{s} from 2011 will remain etched upon your memory?
oh man… too many to recount here.  i honestly had so many fantastic times in 2011… it was a great year overall.

what would you like to have in 2012 that you lacked in 2011?
boldness to step out in certain areas of my life.

what’s your biggest achievement this year?
i followed the worst semester of my life (academically) up with what will (hopefully… our final grades haven’t been posted yet) be my best.  and, i finally got an a+ on an exam at gc.

biggest failure?
um, pretty much all of spring semester of sophomore year from an academic perspective.  let’s talk about a train wreck… wow.

did you suffer illness or injury?
i mean… nothing majorly significant, but i pretty much injure myself on the daily.

what was the last thing you bought?
ha… um, a black sweater, double sided tape, cream cheese and starbursts at target.  hahaha… wow.

whose behavior merited celebration?
my parents, who celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this year.

where did most of your money go?
to be completely honest… target.  it’s an addiction.

what did you really get excited about?
how the spirit has been at work in my church, my vacation to philly, new babies being born, and a lot of various other things.

what song will remind you of 2011?
soooooo much good music in 2011… i don’t think i could pick one song.

compared to this time last year, are you happier or sadder?
happier i suppose, but i wouldn’t say i was unhappy at this time last year.  life has been consistently good for me for the most part, and i am extremely thankful for that blessing.

what do you wish you’d done more of?
spending quiet time with jesus, taking pictures.

what do you wish you’d done less of?
spending time on the internet.

what was your favorite tv show?
community.  with ncis taking a very close second.

what were the best books you read?
the hunger games series

what was your best musical discovery?
the civil wars!!!!!  and james vincent mcmorrow.  and mat kearney.  but really… the civil wars!!!

what did you want and get?
to become closer friends with a few specific people.

what movies did you see in cinema?
mr. poppers penguins (over the summer with the little girl i babysat)
the help (on a whim with some friends at school when it came to the little theater in town)
tower heist (i was dragged to a 10:50 showing of this movie with some friends over thanksgiving break and fell asleep during part of it…)

as you may be able to tell… i am not a huge fan of the movie theater.  i don’t really think spending $10 to see a movie is worth it.  i’ll wait for the dvd.

what did you do on your birthday? how old did you turn?
i turned 20, and i spent the day visiting friends who were working at camp!  and it was a great day.

what one thing would have made this year more satisfying?
studying harder and doing better in organic chemistry and several of my other classes last spring.  but mostly just organic chemistry.

how would you describe your personal fashion?
finally in a place where i feel ‘fashionable’ most of the time.  it took me a really long time to feel like i could look put together on a regular basis.  but this year i think i accomplished that for the most part. i am quite satisfied with the complete wardrobe makeover that has taken place in the last 2 years.

what kept you sane?
sensible friends who speak wisdom into my life on a regular basis.  and honestly, getting to do a ton of babysitting every time i came home.  i need that.

who was the best new person you met?
emily p!

what was a valuable lesson you’ve learned?
god’s faithfulness when we learn to surrender and trust.
